Looking back at 2017 so far, one bag has clearly taken the fashion crowd by storm significantly more than any of it’s competitors. As seen on Aimee Song, Chiara Ferrgari, Suki Waterhouse, and pretty much every other it-girl on the fashion scene, I think it’s fair to say that Chloe’s Faye bag has been a riot amongst the stylish crowd, and it’s not hard to see why.
The bag was released as part of Chloe’s Fall/Winter 2017 collection, and is featured in a wide variety of colours and styles, in the form of a day bag, backpack, shoulder bag, bracelet bag and wallet. The body is made from calfskin and has a magnetic enclosure, and the classic Chloe logo is embossed on the front. One of the unique design features that makes the ‘Forever Faye‘ style so recognisable amongst fashion mavericks is the contrast in the smooth surface of the main body of the bag and the suede texture on the front flap. However the bag also includes an iconic metal ring loop and chain fastening, which has become the Faye bag’s most discernible feature.
Now, seeing as my student budget would never justify, let alone stretch to the over-a-grand price I’d have to fork out to get my hands on this beautiful bag, I pretty much had to kiss goodbye any dreams I had of donning this bag to shifts at my cashier job. Alternatively I’d have to be a mega-famous blogger to be sent this bag, but seeing as we’re nowhere near that stage, thats a pipe dream I’ll have to let go of too, (however on the off chance Chloe’s PR team got lost on the web and have ended up here, I adore the small Faye backpack in Motty Grey!)
At Random, after spending one of many aimless evenings scrolling through Topshop’s website I happened to come across the ‘Remy‘ bag.
As you can see the bag is obviously not an exact match to the Faye bag, as this would be an infringement of copyright law, however the bags are similar enough to allow the less affluent of us to have a piece of the high fashion look.
As demonstrated below is a comparison of both bags, and it is evident that they look fairly similar. Both bags feature the contrast in the smooth body and the suede textured fabric of the flap, and both bags include the statement ring on the front.
The differences include the fastenings, the Faye bag has the hanging chain, which the Remy bag is lacking. However I’m sure those who were keen could find a separate chain to add to the Remy bag to replicate the Chloe bag even more. Also the Remy bag has a chain and fabric strap, unlike the entire fabric strap of the Faye.
The exterior of the Faye is calfskin, whereas the Remy is produced from 100% Polyurethane, so of course the overall quality of the Chloe bag would be much greater than that of the Topshop bag, but at around fifty times cheaper, costing the bargain price of £25.00, I’m sure you’ll find a way to fit the Remy bag into your autumn/winter wardrobe.
Below shows how the ‘Remy’ bag looks when being worn, I hope this gives you an idea on scale. The bag is fairly compact however is enough to keep any essentials in, such as keys, money e.t.c.
T-shirt – Whistles
Trousers – Levis
Bag – Topshop
